Duplicate content is very important ranking every website. It has a negative influence on Google Page rank. To avoid the drop of page rank it is necessary to check for duplicate content on your Website. I have had a conversation with a webmaster from Google and found out that there are several most important factors that can decrease page rank. I am going to talk about duplicate content and will give you several advises and what tools to use to check a Website.
Wordpress is very tricky and sometimes can make a negative affect on a Website. Since Wordpress 2.7 was released most of bloggers have had a problem with duplicate content. I have experienced the same problem. As you can see in a picture there are two links but one link is different. If you visit any of these links you will get the same result. It means it is a duplicate content. That is not good.
This problem is caused by Wordpress comment pagination. If your blog has a lot of comments there will be many comment pages. As you can see at the end of the link there is /comment-page-1/. Comment pagination option is checked by default. To turn this option off you need to look at Admin > Discussion area. There is an example below.
Just uncheck the box and that is all. Not sure about the latest Wordpress version but i hope it won’t be checked. It is never too late to optimize a Website for Search engines (SEO).
