URL structure is important for any Wordpress blog if you want to tell readers more about the post and content. I remember that I have read about structure of the URL and which structure may be the best. I have found many suggestions and all of them were very similar. I know that it is really hard to decide what URL structure to use so I will try to share my ideas to help you with it.
Bloggers always ask what structure to use and which one is the best. They also care about the page rank and how it flows within a site. Well, what is a negative side of the structure domainname(.)com/year/month/day/post-name/? If a user finds interesting information it is very good but the main thing is that he can see the date of the post. And we don’t want our visitors to look for a newer version of the article we want him to stay on our site as long as possible. This structure makes URL a little bit uglier. Just take a simple URL structure domainname(.)com/post-name. That is very easy for users to remember and it is very simple URL.
Another question is “has this to do with how page rank flows within a site?”. Google doesn’t worry about how deep a set of directories is. Matt Cutts has admitted it. So if you had your root page and you linked directly to a very deep page, that page would still get the PageRank from the root page. I am not sure about the Yahoo or Bing but Google doesn’t really worry about that very much.
It would be fine to have year/month/day in terms of the PageRank would still flow within a site just fine based on links. So you wonder which way to use? It is kinda up to you.
