Protect your Blog

Author: admin | Files under Security tips

Sexy girl error 404 imgIn this article I will tell you how to protect a blog. The reason I write this article is that i had problems with my blog so I will share what to do to avoid getting 404 – page not found errors.
What was a problem?
When I loaded my blog (digit-8.com) I could have seen that everything is fine but when I clicked on any article, page or any other link on my blog I have got this message saying:

404 error – not found. The resource you have requested could not be found on the server.

I just could not imagine what was the reason for that. I thought it was a problem with the server so i submitted a ticked to get an answer what is wrong with that. I was told to delete .htaccess from my domain folder because it is malicious script. Also i had to scan my computer for viruses, spyware and malware. I was offered to use anti-virus software to scan my pc first. I have chosen Malwarebytes’ Anti Malware.

That is what I found on my computer:

Registry Values Infected:
(Trojan.Zlob)
Registry Data Items Infected:
(Hijack.Search) -> Bad: (http://internetsearchservice.com/search?q=%s) Good: (http://www.google.com/)
Folders Infected:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\527631 (Trojan.BHO)
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adsl Software Limited (Rogue.MalWarrior)
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adsl Software Limited\WinSpywareProtect (Rogue.MalWarrior)
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adsl Software Limited\WinSpywareProtect\BASE
and more…
Files Infected:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nyfronhr.dll (Trojan.Vundo)
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adsl Software Limited\WinSpywareProtect\LOG\20080615140133011.log (Rogue.MalWarrior)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mcrh.tmp (Malware.Trace)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\clkcnt.txt (Trojan.Vundo)

After scanning my machine i had to change FTP password. By the way, it is recommended to change FTP password from time to time. To rectify the 404 error, I had to upload the back up of the files to my domain folder or re-create .htaccess file similar to as it was designed originally. I couldn’t do anything. I tried various ways to re-create .htaccess file but unsuccessfully. I made a copy of my domain files, downloaded to my computer and then deleted almost everything from domain.com (digit-8.com). I decided to install the newest WordPress version. And this is was successful step.

I want to say that scan your machine from viruses, spyware and malware. This will help you to protect your blog. Also take a look at the article how to clean malware, spyware.
