There are mane WordPress templates that show truncated posts on home page. The other type of templates are when you see full post on your home page. Using truncated posts you can show same number of posts on home page but it may take longer to load your site. That is why it is better to show truncated posts on home page.

Many websites where your write posts for money want you to have full post on home page. I don’t think it is a right policy but we can’t do anything about that. If you try to submit your blog with truncated posts on your home page you will get a notification like this:

Thank you for your blog submission. Unfortunately, we cannot accept your blog at this time because of its format. The entire posts must be visible on the main page of your blog. Because your blog is truncating posts on the main pages, much of the posts are cut off. Please change the format to show the posts in their entirety when you resubmit your blog.

So if you have a blog that shows truncated posts you may change it very easily. All you need to do is edit PHP code. It is easy enough. Just find this line or similar in you index.php:

<?php the_excerpt(__(‘Read more’));?>

And replace it with the following line:

<?php the_content(‘continue reading »’) ; ?>

And that is all. Now you should see full posts on your WordPress home page. Also take a look at the tutorial to hide WordPress list pages.

This article is dedicated to Back Track users who want to have an internet connection but don’t want to execute all commands each time rebooting linux system. You will not need to save LAN settings in Back Track. I will tell you what to do to get an internet connection configured in several seconds. I assume you have Back Track installed on you USB stick with persistent changes. Each time you reboot your system you need to execute the same commands like:

- change MAC address in linux
- turn your network card on
- set up network configuration (enter all IP, DNS addresses and so on.)

I have written all of them in the article about network configuration in linux. It takes time and it is a little bit annoying process. But this is the way you can configure your LAN to connect to internet. There are many ways to do that but I will show you one I use. This is very simple and no linux sills required. All you need to do to make a scrip for linux. Follow easy steps to make a Script below:
- Launch shell in Linux.
- Then type vi and press enter. I’m not going to explain how to use vi. This is not a subject I am writing about.
- Next you will need to write all your commands you want to execute. I will give you a simple example:

#!/bin/bash
clear
echo “My first script for Linux.”
echo “LAN configuration script for Linux”

Well, just save it with a name “example“. If you don’t know how to launch it there is a command:

./example

After executing it you will see that it does not work. You will get a message saying that permission denied. All you need to do is to chmod it. To chmod (give permissions) execute this command:

chmod 755 example

Now the script should be ready to run by typing:

./example

Remember that if you want to execute it a script file should be saved in a root folder. This is just an example so you will need to include necessary commands for network configuration.

If you want to have Back Track 4 on USB with persistent changes and want to make it bootable USB with linux just follow the instructions in the article How To: “Make bootable USB to save changes – Back Track 3 on USB with persistent changes“. The instructions are the same for BT4. (By the way, this post is written for my personal use with a help I found somewhere online, I post it here to show my hardware compatability).

To make BT4 bootable with persistent changes I used 2 USB sticks. The first to launch Back Track (BT2,3 or4) without any changes and the second to prepare and make all changes in linux for my Back Track 4. I used 2 USB sticks because it is easier.

Well, when you finish Step 5 you will need to follow the instructions below:

Let’s say we have a formatted second partition, mount it and create a changes directory in the root of the file system. Open shell and execute these commands:

mount /dev/sdc2 /mnt/sdc2
cd /mnt/sdc2
mkdir changes

Don’t forget that it can be sdc2 but not sdb2. It depends on your computer and configurations. If you use 2 USB sticks there should be sdc2. next we will make some changes to how the system boots. Now execute these commands:

cd /boot/syslinux
chmod +Xx lilo
chmod +Xx syslinux

Then you need to open syslinux.cfg and modify it. To do that execute the commands:

cd /mnt/sdc1/boot/syslinux
kwrite syslinux.cfg

I copied the boot definition I wanted to change and created a new entry so I would have a fall back option if something became broken. well, in the file find:

1. “LABEL BT4″

2. Copy this line and next 3 lines and paste all these lines below existing 4 lines. Well, now we have the same 4 lines. Our new section.

3. Change the “LABEL BT4″ to something you want like “LABEL BT4-persistent” and description to something like “MENU LABEL BT4 Beta – Console – Persistent”.

4. Now we need to change the line that begins with APPEND in your copied section by adding “changes=/dev/sdx2″ immediately after “root=/dev/ram0 rw” where the x is the drive appropriate for your system. In my case it looks like this, “….root=/dev/ram0 rw changes=/dev/sdc2….”. Remember that you need to add “changes=/dev/sdx2″ after “rw” and remove the last word that goes after “rw”. I think there should be “quite” or something similar at the end of the line. Just delete this word.

5. Save your changes and exit the editor.

That should work fine now. Reboot and select the option you setup configured. To test it, create a file and reboot again. If your file is still there, everything is perfect. If you follow all instruction step by step you won’t have any errors.

INSTALL NETWORK CARD and ASSIGN IP ADDRESS IN LINUX:

After Back Track 3 installation i had to install my network (NIC) drivers because no drivers were available in linux system. I have used Generic Marvell Yukon 88E8071 based ethernet controller. So I had to download Linux drivers for Linux kerner 2.4.20 or higher for my Generic Marvell Yukon 88E8071 network card. How to install drivers try looking for readme file. Just extract zip file to Root. There you will have a folder named DriverInstall. In shell execute this command to start the sk98lin driver build process:

cd DriverInstall
./install.sh

And next step is to choose driver installation mode. Well, we have USB which save changes after each reboot. In shell type:

ifconfig -a

There you should see your Network (NIC) card installed. Drivers are ready so it is time to configure your network IPs. To set up IPs type this command in shell:

ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.123 netmask 255.255.255.0 up

We assigned IP to our eth0 network card. To set up gateway use this command:

route add default gateway 192.168.0.1

Ok now you can communicate with the machines on the internet but if you open your web browser at this point and try to navigate to any web site you will get an error that says “Address not found”. You need to specify a DNS server(s). DNS server is specified in the file:

/etc/resolv.conf

You will get a content of this file. I think this should be empty but it is not important now. To add DNS sever execute this command:

sudo echo “nameserver 172.16.1.20″ > /etc/resolv.conf

This will add DNS server to the file. Do not forget to use your IP not IP in example. If you want to add another DNS server execute this command:

sudo echo “nameserver 172.16.1.20″ >> /etc/resolv.conf

You can see that there are two >>.

The last thing I had to do to use my connection was to change my MAC address.

CHANGE MAC ADDRESS IN LINUX:

Just execute the commands. After each line you need to hit <ENTER>

ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:00:00:00:00:00
ifconfig eth0 up
ifconfig eth0 |grep HWaddr

Instead of the numbers in example use your own mac address. You might need to change MAC to use internet connection after installing BT3 because MAC address can be different than the one stored in the database of the ISP.

In this article I will try to explain how to install Back Track 3 (BT3) in your USB stick and how to set up USB to save all your changes. So each time you reboot BT3 your will have all the same changes made before restart.

We will need:

– A Computer compatible with Back Track 3. I will be using Acer Aspire 5930G.

– The USB stick you will be installing on (USB). Here I will use 2 GB USB stick. It is named JetFlash TS2GJFV90 USB device.

– And the second USB to boot BT from. For this I will use 1GB USB stick (USB2).

Two sticks will be used because we want to make USB bootable and to save changes. So USB2 will be used to do all the steps. Remember that it is possible to do it in Linux only so that is why I use 2 sticks. You can also have CD or HDD.

STEP 1. FORMAT USB and USB2:

If your USB2 is a CD/DVD, you can skip this step, since it is formatted to begin with. In Windows, go to My Computer, right-click USB, and select Format. Choose FAT32 for the file system, label it what you want. Don’t choose quick format, it doesn’t take that long anyway. Follow the same steps for the USB2, if applicable.

You can also format USB in linux.

STEP2. INSTALL BACKTRACK TO USB2:

Download and extract bt3final_usb to USB2. Our USB2 is USB stick so:

In Windows navigate navigate to /boot/ within the USB2, and run ‘bootinst.bat’. Follow the instructions, ENSURING THAT bootinst.bat IS WITHIN THE USB, NOT THE HDD. If you run it while it’s within the HDD, YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA STORED ON THE DRIVE.

In UNIX, navigate to /boot/ within the USB2, and run ‘bootinst.sh’. The same warnings given to Windows users apply, but I won’t repeat them seeing as UNIX users are generally more intelligible than users of Windows

STEP 3. REMOVE ALL PREVIOUS PARTITIONS ON USB:

Insert the USB2, boot up, and re-insert the USB. (Remember that we have Linux in USB2). On the desktop, go to System, then Storage Media. Mount the USB, and hover your mouse over the USB2 and USB to identify their device nodes.

My USB’s device node was /dev/sdc, and my USB2 was /dev/sdb. These device nodes will be used as such throughout the rest of this guide – you will have to replace sdc and sdb with your own USB’s and USB2′s device nodes respectively. In my case I have /dev/sdc and /dev/sdb because I am using two sticks.

Having identified your device nodes, open up a shell and type:

umount /dev/sdc1
fdisk /dev/sdc

We need to delete all partitions so type d and hit enter. You will then be asked for the partition number that you want to delete.

Command (m for help): d
Partition number (1-4):

Then type 1 and hit enter again. Do it for all partitions. To see what partitions you have type p and hit enter.

Once there are no partitions, the output of “p” will be:

Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/sdc: 1998 MB, 1998585344 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 242 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xa62da6ab

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

STEP 4. CREATE PARTITION TABLE ON USB:

n
p
1
<ENTER>
+1024M
n
p
2
<ENTER>
<ENTER>
p

The final ‘p’ input should now show two entries: /dev/sdc1 and /dev/sdc2. Remember that <ENTER> means you have to hit enter button not to write. Well, you should see something similar to this:

Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/sdc: 1998 MB, 1998585344 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 242 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xa62da6ab

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1                            1                132          1060258+  83       Linux
/dev/sdc2                         133            242           883575         83      Linux

Numbers can be different so it is OK. To apply changes, return back to root:

w

This will write changes to the drive after hitting <ENTER>. Make sure devices are unmounted before moving onto the next step.

STEP5. CREATE PARTITIONS ON USB:

Follow these commands:

mkdosfs -F 32 /dev/sdc1
mkfs.ext2 /dev/sdc2

STEP6. SETTING UP PARTITIONS:

In root type:

mkdir /mnt/sdc1
mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/sdc1
mkdir /mnt/sdc2
mount /dev/sdc2 /mnt/sdc2
cp /mnt/sdb1/* /mnt/sdc1

It is possible to skip this step and copy BT3 and boot folders in other way. As you do copying in Windows. Well, just copy these two folders to your new and empty USB. The copying will take a few minutes, so you can take a break here. Then:

cd /mnt/sdc1/boot/syslinux
kwrite syslinux.cfg

Scroll down until you find the boot line for the mode compatible with your computer. Since my Wind was only compatible with VESA KDE, I scrolled down to VESA’s boot line. In the APPEND line, add

changes=/dev/sdc2

See I write here /dev/sdc2 but when you unplug your USB stick and use only one stick (the one we are preparing now) you will have to repeat this step and change /dev/sdc2/ to /dev/sdb2 because we are using here two sticks now. So after removing one, sdc2 should become sdb2. Then should look like this:

APPEND changes=/dev/sdb2 vga=0x…

Save the file, and exit Kwrite. Back in the shell:

cd ..
chmod 777 bootinst.sh
./bootinst.sh

In the top line, it should say ‘This installer will setup disk /dev/sdc1 to boot only Slax.’ If it does, go ahead and install it. It doesn’t, don’t run it. Finally,

mkdir /mnt/sdc2/changes
umount /dev/sdc1
umount /dev/sdc2
poweroff

Note that /dev/sdc1 may be busy. This doesn’t really matter. When it has shut down, take out the USB2. To ensure that everything went smoothly, when you’re back in the desktop, double click System, go to Storage Media, and you should see two separate USB devices for your two partitions. Hover your mouse over both of these – the 1.0G Removable Media should be /dev/sdb1 and the other /dev/sdb2.
Then, right-click the desktop and make a ‘test.txt’ file. Reboot, and it should have remained there.

This tutorial was written for my personal use with some changes especially using with my Acer Aspire 5930G and other devices with a help from Remote Exploit.
